Who is Lord Shani?
Lord Shani, also known as Sani or Shani Dev, holds a prominent place in Hindu mythology as the deity responsible for warding off evil and removing obstacles. He is associated with various names like Ravinandana, Saneeswara, Saura, Pangu, Mandu, Kruradris, Asita, and Saptarshi, among others, each linked to specific aspects of his persona or related legends.
Shani Dev embodies spiritual asceticism, penance, discipline, and diligent work. In the Hindu calendar, Shani is the divine influence behind Shanivara, which is Saturday, one of the seven days.
Shani Deva in Vedic Astrology
In Vedic astrology, Shani is identified as Saturn, one of the nine planetary deities known as Navagraha. It holds the seventh position among them and is characterized by its slow movement, taking approximately 30 years to traverse all 12 zodiac signs.
